Episode 90 : Sanctified: Tony Hoffman

Former BMX champion Tony Hoffman connects with American Addiction Centers to share the story of his journey from opioid addiction, homelessness, and prison, to getting sober, coaching the Olympic BMX team, and traveling the country to spread his message of recovery from the disease of addiction.

With a professional career in BMX, you would think that Tony Hoffman had it all. But career success, even in a sport you’re passionate about, doesn’t guarantee protection from the horrors of substance abuse, drug addiction, and mental health challenges.

Known widely for his TEDx talk, Tony Hoffman has dedicated his life to breaking the stigma surrounding addiction and homelessness. After getting clean, Hoffman was able to turn his life around — from imprisonment and thoughts of suicide to coaching the Olympic team in Rio, Brazil.

“It doesn’t matter how low your life gets, there is a turning point,” Hoffman says. “It’s a decision you have to make and a commitment you have to hold.”

Hoffman now has more than 12 years in recovery and continues to share his story and inspire others through his journey.

Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD are frequently associated with drug and alcohol addiction. American Addiction Centers specializes in treating co-occurring mental health disorders alongside addiction, using evidence-based treatments to address the root cause of substance abuse and help patients achieve lasting recovery.
