Desert Hope Treatment Center

Individual Therapy

Depending on your level of care, you will participate in an individual therapy session for 50 minutes at least once a week. A variety of different treatment modalities are used, including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Seeking Safety, and our Biofeedback Therapy Chair.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is reserved for those who have been in treatment at Desert Hope for some time and who have physician and therapist approval that they are ready for this intensive level of work.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Desert Hope understands that sometimes medication-assisted treatment is the best option for those seeking recovery, and gladly provides MAT in conjunction with therapy, if the patient's provider recommends it. Primarily, Desert Hope will prescribe and distribute Suboxone and Vivitrol.

The requirements for the MAT program include:

  • 1 year of high-dose opioid use
  • Commitment to a longer treatment stay (minimum 45-90 days under care)
  • Involvement of a loved one in treatment with a full open ROI

Group Therapy

During your stay at Desert Hope, your participation in groups will vary depending on your personalized treatment plan. All group sessions are separated by gender to address gender-specific issues that may be present within topics such as stages of change, first responders, spirituality, and LGBTQ. Below are some of our group therapy offerings:

  • LGBTQ Group
  • Early Recovery
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Stages of Change: This model is used in the initial assessment of a patient. Desert Hope understands that often the personal drive to be free of substance addiction can be the greatest motivator in treatment, and will work to help patients determine their personal model of change and their place within it.
  • First Responders
  • Spirituality Engagement
  • Women’s Empowerment Groups

Psycho-Educational, Supportive, Expressive, & Alternative Therapies

Additional treatment interventions are offered to therapeutically support your overall care and wellbeing. Below are a few of our noteworthy offerings:

  • Art Therapy: A popular holistic practice that helps supplement treatment by offering patients a different avenue to explore and express complex emotions and ideas. Sessions are held 5 times a week by Edith Pastor, Desert Hope's resident art therapy expert.
  • Music Therapy
  • Yoga
  • Equine Therapy: Patients do not ride the horses but are given the opportunity to interact with them therapeutically.
  • Recreational Outings
