At SDATC, staff members work with new patients and those continuing from Laguna in order to craft a unique outpatient or sober living track for them. This dedication allows patients to build a schedule that works to accommodate both treatment and their day-to-day lives.
SDATC is closely tied with Laguna Treatment Hospital, another American Addiction Centers facility in Aliso Viejo, and serves as the facility’s satellite PHP, IOP, and Sober Living residence. While many patients venture over from Laguna, SDATC accepts new arrivals as well.
At SDATC, your treatment team will work with you to craft a well-rounded outpatient or partial hospitalization program to fit your specific needs.
Day Treatment (PHP): SDATC’s day treatment program, or partial hospitalization program (PHP), offers daily programming, structured group therapy, and weekly individual therapy sessions.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): SDATC’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides patients with structured, therapeutic programing, composed of professionally run groups and individual sessions with therapists and case managers. The IOP allows patients to claim the benefits of treatment while also living at home or a sober living facility for optimal community integration.
Sober Living: Resolutions San Diego is AAC’s premiere sober living home in California, and is generally used as a step-down or continuum of care for individuals that have completed treatment at Laguna Treatment Hospital or SDATC. Located just minutes east of downtown San Diego, Resolutions offers adult men a dorm-style sober living environment that allows them to live with like-minded individuals sharing the collective goal of long-term recovery.
Additional supplemental therapies are available to provide patients with a holistic treatment experience. Expressive therapies such as music, art, and outdoor groups work as an effective way for patients to portray emotions that may be difficult to verbalize.
The clinicians at SDATC recognize that addiction can occur in tandem with other disorders, and hence are equipped to treat addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. Through an integrated treatment approach, SDATC treats secondary issues such as anxiety, depressions, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and bipolar disorder.
With over 20 years of experience and over half of those dedicated to addiction medicine, Dr. Paul Little is an integral addiction expert in San Diego and beyond. Dr. Little’s interest in addiction medicine began when he returned to West Virginia after serving as a physician in the U.S. Air Force. During this time, he began work for a consortium of rural health clinics in the hills of Appalachia where he saw a number of loggers and miners struggling with opioid addiction to cope with their recurring injuries and chronic pain. Noticing a great need within the community, Dr. Little was among the first in the area to start a Suboxone clinic, a medication-assisted therapy (MAT) program, to help stem the epidemic. His ground-breaking work granted him a community recognition award from the governor of West Virginia in 2009.
Today, Dr. Little remains passionate about helping individuals overcome their drug and alcohol addictions. He has even spearheaded the MAT program at the San Diego Addiction Treatment Center, a standalone outpatient clinic. Dr. Little is also an advocate for family involvement in addiction treatment. Witnessing first-hand addiction issues within his own family, he realized the importance of familial support in a person’s long-term recovery, which is why Dr. Little’s treatment philosophy involves family members in the treatment process when possible.
