At Sunrise House, tours are available for prospective patients and/or family members, but they should call ahead to schedule the tour. Family counselors conduct the tours and answer any questions. Tour participants will get to see the facility and dining room, and they can request to see a bedroom if they wish. To respect patient privacy, tour participants will not interact with patients.
Our admission process is quick and easy, and usually takes an hour or less to complete. Once you arrive at the airport, one of our behavioral health technicians will meet you at the airport and help you every step of the way as you enter the facility.
When a patient arrives at Sunrise House, he or she is brought through the reception area and then to an intake representative in the VIP area, who will become acquainted with the patient and go through the intake process and paperwork. If the patient needs medical detox, they will go there first, otherwise the patient will be admitted directly to residential treatment. Each patient will get a nursing assessment as soon as possible, a history and physical by a medical doctor within 24 hours of admission, and a psychiatric evaluation within 48 hours of admission. The patient will then be assigned a counselor, who they will meet with throughout their stay at Sunrise House.
Meals are served in a magnificent dining hall at set times, but there is also a snack area providing crackers, peanut butter, sherbet, coffee, and more. Detox patients can receive meals in their rooms or choose to come to the dining hall. Every Friday night is pizza night. Accommodations are made for special diets if needed, and a registered dietitian will meet with every patient to ensure they are getting the appropriate nutrition.
Detox patients reside in single rooms on the 2nd floor. Women in residential treatment stay on the opposite side of the 2nd floor, with shared rooms and Jack-and-Jill style bathrooms. Men in residential treatment have single rooms on the 3rd floor with shared dorm-style bathrooms. Laundry facilities are available on-site.
In their free time, clients can play baseball on the field, participate in yoga, exercise in the indoor gym, play volleyball, work with a personal trainer, relax in the outside seating areas and gazebos, or watch television in the lounge area. Movie nights are hosted on Saturdays.
Because connectivity is so important, patients may bring and use their electronic devices at Sunrise House during free hours. We provide free Wi-Fi to all patients and guests.
Sunrise House recognizes that addiction affects not only the individual with the illness, but their loved ones as well, and that having a strong support system is an integral part of recovery. To start healing those family relationships damaged by addiction, Sunrise House offers a family program during lunch on Tuesdays and for a half-day on Saturdays. Family members listen to a lecture and have a chance to bond with one another. Research shows that successful, sustained recovery from addiction is more likely when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Furthermore, family history and dynamics can also play a role in both addiction and recovery. Last but certainly not least, it’s important for family members to understand and encourage the lifestyle changes that the patient must make for sustained recovery.
With patient consent, loved ones can visit patients on Saturdays at 12:45 p.m. First, they attend a family lecture from 1-2 p.m., then they can visit with the patient from 2-3:15 p.m. We know that some people travel long distances to visit their loved one, so we allow extra time for these individuals. Twice a month, we do a family educational day for the patients’ families only. There is a morning education session followed by lunch with the patient. Accommodations for special visits are made if families have small children, where the patient stays with the child while the family is in the morning session.
During your loved one’s treatment, we can work with you to plan a visit if the patient wishes. Your loved one’s treatment team will provide you with all of the information you need to schedule your visit.
