Dr. Paul Little, medical director of Laguna Treatment Hospital, was interviewed by Fox News for a piece on mental health and substance use issues among veterans.

Dr. Little, a veteran with 19 years of recovery, spoke about the many unique issues faced by veterans when they return home as a result of their time overseas. According to Dr. Little, the addictive behaviors of many veterans stem from keeping their struggles under wraps or denying that problem exists.

“So many veterans who are dealing with addiction think that they’re alone in their struggle, but that couldn’t be further from the truth,” said Dr. Little. “For military veterans, however, there’s a sense that addiction equals weakness, failure or a lack of morals, and for years it’s been ‘treated’ with punishment.”
