Outpatient Programs at Southaven: What to Expect
Individual Therapy
One-on-one visits allow you to delve into topics that explore your addiction history and other issues, teach you coping skills to address the addiction, allow you to discuss your progress, and help outline your aftercare and long-term goals.
Group Therapy
The majority of sessions at Southaven’s outpatient facility take place in groups. This allows you to share your experiences and learn various relapse prevention skills in a nonjudgmental, peer-supported atmosphere. These groups can benefit your recovery by helping decrease feelings of isolation and allowing you to share with and learn from others who have had similar life experiences.
Family Therapy
Family therapy can be an essential part of your recovery. When spouses, partners, family members, children, and other loved ones understand your addiction and can work through it with you and take steps to repair any damage in your relationship, their encouragement and support can positively impact your recovery.
Benefits of Outpatient Rehab
Outpatient treatment for drug and alcohol addiction may provide a number of benefits, including:
- Flexibility. Though it does depend on the specific program, outpatient rehab generally allows you to continue working or tending to daily responsibilities since you live at home or in a sober living facility while participating in scheduled counseling and therapy sessions at the treatment center.
- Ability to practice skills in real life. Outpatient programs provide opportunities to practice the recovery skills learned in treatment in your everyday life.
- Lower cost. Generally speaking, because outpatient programs do not provide room and board or round-the-clock care, they cost less than an inpatient or residential program.
- Longer time in treatment. While the time each week spent in treatment is less compared to inpatient care, outpatient programs tend to last longer because the sessions are spread out. Research indicates unequivocally that positive treatment outcomes are contingent upon adequate treatment length.
