Prospective Patients
At AdCare’s outpatient treatment center, we offer and encourage facility tours during our operating hours on a walk-in basis, or you can organize them with AdCare staff by calling our facility directly.
Arrival
AdCare’s admission process is designed for efficiency, meaning you can often expect to begin treatment within 24 hours. The admissions begins after you meet or contact with the admissions desk, generally via phone. After the admissions paperwork is complete, you’ll meet one-on-one with a counselor and other healthcare professionals to determine your proper treatment track. Our admission process is quick and easy, and usually takes an hour or less to complete. AdCare is usually able to offer next-day intake appointments.
AdCare Hospital Outpatient is an outpatient rehab center for drug and alcohol addiction treatment. With a long history of treating people with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders in the New England region, and as a respected innovator in the field of substance abuse, AdCare incorporates modern, evidence-based treatment into its curriculum along with a variety of other effective therapeutic interventions.

Transportation Assistance
At AdCare, we understand that not all of our patients have working vehicles. As a result, transportation to AdCare facilities could be difficult. However, for patients participating in AdCare Rhode Island’s treatment program, transportation needs become simple challenges. AdCare provides complimentary transportation to and from our facilities. Whether an AdCare driver meets you at a location or if AdCare provides you with funds for public transportation, you’ll be able to rest easy about transportation concerns and make it to daily programming – no matter what.

Medical Capabilities
We understand that some patients may not require an inpatient stay but still need assistance in withdrawing from pain medications, opioids, benzodiazepines, alcohol, and more. AdCare’s Outpatient Detoxification Program in Worcester, MA, combines medical supervision during withdrawal with alcohol and drug treatment to help clients continue their therapeutic abstinence.
Individualized Treatment
Depending on your level of care, you will participate in individual therapy for 50 minutes, 1 to 2 times a week. AdCare Treatment Hospital’s clinical professionals employ a variety of different treatment interventions to help those in our outpatient rehab recover from drug and alcohol abuse, including (but not limited to):
- Individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
- Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

Alternative Psycho-Educational, Supportive, & Expressive Therapies
AdCare’s many northeastern locations also offer additional treatment interventions to patients to therapeutically support your overall care and wellbeing. Some of these interventions may include music therapy or an on-site therapy dog named Ruby at the Worcester location.

At AdCare Outpatient Services, our highly-skilled masters-level clinicians work with patients to assess their individual needs and establish an appropriate treatment plan. All of our staff are trained in addiction treatment. Some of their specialties include trauma-informed therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and holistic approaches to addiction treatment. Approximately 50% of AdCare Outpatient direct patient-care staff are in recovery themselves, a hallmark to exemplify and model that recovery can be a way of life.
Marcella Rivard, CFO, Corporate Treasurer
Marcella Rivard, C.P.A., M.B.A., brings significant industry/finance experience and an excellent track record for leading finance and operational teams. Most recently, Rivard held the position of CFO with Steward Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts. Previous to her Steward employment, she worked for Harvard Medical Faculty Practice Group of Beth Israel, Boston as executive director of finance and business operations; Hallmark Health System, Inc., Medford, Massachusetts as corporate controller and director of financial planning decision support; and at UMass Memorial Health Care System, Worcester, Massachusetts as senior director of financial planning/director of business development for affiliate hospitals.
Mohammad Alhabbal, MD, Medical Director
Mohammad Alhabbal, MD, ABFP, ABAM, is medical director at AdCare Hospital, as well as the principal of Lianne, Inc., an adult primary care and addiction medicine practice on the main campus of AdCare Hospital. A graduate of the Damascus University Medical School in Syria, Dr. Alhabbal completed his family medicine residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine’s Hospitalist Division. Other positions include 11 years as an attending physician at AdCare Hospital, as well as employment as a family practitioner for the Primary Care Office in Worcester, Massachusetts. Dr. Alhabbal is certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM).
He is also a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). Recent poster presentations include the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) in the Primary Care Setting for the 2018 Massachusetts Society of Family Medicine’s Spring Refresher Conference in Boston, and the 2018 Case Management Society of New England Conference in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
Neil Gaer, Executive Director, Outpatient Services
Neil Gaer, MPA, has more than 30 years of experience working in and managing behavioral health and social agencies. Gaer is well versed in implementing and managing substance use disorder treatment programs, including medically monitored detox, clinically managed residential treatment, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient with office-based opioid treatment programs. He has also been responsible for the development, implementation, and operations of clinical, regulatory, fiscal, and administrative functions in various entities. Most recently president of SEG Consulting, Gaer has also served as CEO of Washburn House in Worcester, Massachusetts, and as regional vice president of clinical affairs for a national not-for-profit, where he managed 13 nationally accredited programs and provided clinical oversight for 30 nationally accredited programs. Gaer holds a master’s in public administration from the University of New Haven, and a bachelor’s in human services from Springfield College.
Deirdre Daley, LICSW, Clinical Director of Outpatient Services
Deirdre Daley, LICSW, joined the Worcester Outpatient Program as a clinician in 2012 and was named clinical supervisor in 2015. A licensed independent clinical social worker, she earned her master’s in social work from Simmons College in Boston and her bachelor’s in science from Worcester State College. As Clinical Director of Outpatient Services, Daley is responsible for developing staff and systems to support outpatient programs in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
John N. Copeland, Director of Quincy Outpatient
John N. Copeland, MA, LMHC, director of AdCare Outpatient Services in Quincy and Boston, joined the Quincy office in 2017 with solid experience in mental health and substance use treatment and administration. As director, Copeland forges partnerships in the community and continues to expand treatment to provide not only intensive outpatient programs and early recovery groups, but also specialty services such as parenting in recovery and a complementary family informational program. Since January 2020, he has also served as acting interim director of AdCare Boston. Copeland graduated from Siena College in Loudonville, New York with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and earned a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Boston College.
Annie Park, Director West Springfield Outpatient
Annie Park, MSW, LICSW, joined the AdCare family in 2007 with substantial substance use clinical and supervisory experience. Park received the AdCare Hospital Excellence in Patient Care Award in 2012, for exemplifying the word “care” in healthcare. Known to go out of her way to help patients, staff, and people within the community, she has dramatically increased the volume of services delivered, as well as the number of patients served at the West Springfield office.

AdCare Outpatient Services are accredited by The Joint Commission for Behavioral Health Care, an internationally-recognized symbol of healthcare quality and the gold standard of care for the industry. This accreditation signifies that, through external, unbiased evaluation, we have met or exceeded The Joint Commission’s standards for providing addiction treatment for all of the levels of care offered at AdCare Outpatient Services, including ambulatory detox.

Whether or not you have Cigna insurance, this designation offers third-party validation regarding the facility’s quality of care, allowing you to make better-informed decisions when searching for a treatment facility.
Programming
AdCare offers a complimentary family program at all its outpatient satellites, designed to involve family and friends in their loved one’s recovery and to educate them about the disease of addiction and the nature of recovery. There is one Family Informational Program per AdCare Treatment location.
At these educational family programs, be prepared to connect with other family members who have experienced the disease of addiction in their own family members first-hand. Group facilitators will lead family members and patients through focused educational and support meetings.
