Addiction Cost vs Treatment Calculator
This calculator gives you a monetary estimate of how much you could save over the course of your lifetime by seeking addiction treatment, as opposed to remaining in active addiction. It doesn’t, however, account for the unquantifiable benefits of recovering from a substance use disorder.

How does this calculator work?
- Addiction Cost: The addiction cost estimate is based on how much money you report spending on drugs or alcohol each week. To calculate your estimated spending sum, it also considers when you started using your drug of choice.
- Treatment Cost: Standard inpatient addiction treatment facilities typically cost between $14,000 and $27,000 for a 30-day rehab program. However, depending on your insurance policy, your treatment cost could be completely free*.
- Cost Savings: Cost savings is calculated by subtracting your potential treatment costs from your addiction cost estimate.
* Subject to provider coverage and subscriber’s plan.
