AAC Expert Pens Op-Ed on Vaping and the Risk of COVID-19 Complications
AAC National Medical Director for Clinical Diagnostics, Dr. Mark Calarco, had an article featured in The Doctor Weighs In in which he details the increased risks of COVID-19 complications among teens and young adults who vape.
Many have been under the impression that the most susceptible to serious illness due to the virus are the elderly, those who are immunocompromised and those with pre-existing conditions. Overlooked is the fact that vaping causes irreversible pulmonary issues, which could make the effects of COVID-19 severe.
In the piece, Dr. Calarco lists a number of illnesses that can result from vaping that increases vulnerability to the virus such as bronchiectasis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and even lung transplantation.
