Dr. Mark Calarco was featured in Addiction Professional speaking about an overlooked component of substance use disorder: oral health.

“Sometimes, we think of oral health as being secondary behind those other issues in priority,” said Calarco. “But the research is showing it’s just as critical as any other aspect.”

There are many different effects that substance use can have on one’s oral health, such as saliva production, microbiome imbalances, tooth decay, and even oral cancer.
