Dr. Lawrence Tucker, Medical Director of Laguna Treatment Hospital, provides explanations as to why some communities are more affected and aware of the opioid epidemic versus others.

Tucker believes race plays a huge role. “Some races, particularly white young adults, are being hit harder than others,” said Tucker. “Which is why the neighborhoods that are affected the most are certainly aware of the epidemic, because they have lost loved ones and friends.”
