Chief Medical Officer and Facility Medical Director Speak About Stress and Toxic Stress
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Lawrence Weinstein, and Greenhouse Treatment Center Medical Director, Dr. Casey Green, were featured in a Bustle article about the difference between stress and toxic stress and the effects they both have.
According to Dr. Weinstein, “Normal stress will cease after the occurrence is over – it tends to be self-limiting. Toxic stress takes the natural, involuntary stress response we all have, and extends it for a period of time.”
Dr. Green elaborates on the difference between the two, “Unlike regular stress, many of the situations that cause toxic stress can feel inescapable.” Common stress factors include changes to a routine, toxic stress can include trauma, a life-changing event, and “persistent exposure to abuse, neglect, violence and poverty.”
