August 29, 2019

August 31 is recognized as International Overdose Awareness Day. This is a day set aside every year to raise awareness and to reduce the stigma around drug-related deaths. Preliminary numbers show there were more than 71,000 drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2018 alone. Opioids – mainly synthetic opioids – were the leading cause of drug overdose deaths.

In his interview on WFAA TV in Dallas, Dr. Casey Green demonstrated how to administer an overdosing-reversing drug. Greenhouse Treatment Center also held a free Narcan training event for the public in honor of the awareness day.
