Episode 67: Mark Rosman

“You’re not just an outsider looking at this. This is a family disease; you’ve got to look at yourself.”
That’s what Hollywood director and filmmaker Mark Rosman (“A Cinderella Story,” “The Perfect Man”) found out as his teenage daughter struggled with addiction. When Rosman discovered his daughter was using serious drugs, he and his wife were in denial (and stayed there for a while), unable to reconcile the vivacious, happy daughter they’d raised to the teenager they now saw coming home stumbling up the stairs, the addict lying to and manipulating them over and over. Rosman described himself as codependent, “fused with” his daughter and terrified to say no to her in fear of losing her love forever. But after seeking help for himself, he slowly came to realize that he had to change his behaviors to open the door for her recovery (and his own). Now, he’s made a film called “Keep Coming Back” that portrays a father’s journey through his child’s addiction and his own journey toward healing. The film is an honest, devastating, often funny, and hopeful story of addiction and redemption.
