Medical Director of Greenhouse Treatment Center, Dr. Casey Green, was interviewed by Houston talk radio station KTRH 740AM about a recent study released estimating the years of life lost to alcohol and substance use.

“If someone were to overdose at age 20, life expectancy was 75 that would be 55 life years lost,” said Dr. Green.

On average, substance use takes nearly two years off people’s lives in the U.S. In Texas, the average resident loses 1.21 healthy years of life. Dr. Green states that it is important to note that this number doesn’t include all who use substances.
